At this time, the school was primarily a classical institution preparing students for the higher education found at various colleges in the state. In 1894, the Board of Directors saw the need to expand the courses and began to transition the department into a college. The author chronicles the history of this department in the earlier years, including the names of the principals, professors, and some of the students. The history also includes the names of the various departments within the school and the courses taught therein. This book is an excellent historical reference for anyone interested in the history of Susquehanna University. It provides insights into the transition from a classical preparatory school to a full -fledged college and the difficulties encountered in this expansion.
