Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into a fascinating debate that arose in early American archaeology: whether copper objects found in Native American mounds were of European origin or crafted by indigenous peoples themselves. The author meticulously examines the evidence, presenting a compelling case for the latter. He argues that the purity of the copper, often exceeding the quality of European metal at the time, suggests a source from native deposits, not European trade. The author refutes claims that the complexity of the objects, including thin sheets of embossed copper, were beyond the capabilities of indigenous artisans. He cites historical accounts and artistic depictions of Native Americans wearing similar ornaments, arguing that the skill and ingenuity required to create these objects were present long before European contact. The book's lively and engaging discussion, which includes responses from other experts of the time, ultimately challenges conventional assumptions about the cultural capabilities of Native Americans and reveals a more nuanced picture of their history and craftsmanship. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781333420321_0
