The investi gations of archeologists, geographers, ethnographers, and learned travelers who have traversed the Balkan Penin sula with a scientific object, have very largely contributed to this. All this was done at a time when the national sentiment of the Christian peoples in the Balkans was not yet developed and when there were no chauvinistic animosities. It is just this fact which gives a scientific character to the investigations of these men.
