Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines plane cubics by studying their points of inflexion, with a focus on cases where four such points are given. The author establishes conditions for determining the location of the remaining five inflexion points, thereby characterizing the complete set of nine inflexion points for these cubics. The author begins by considering the classical fact that every nonsingular cubic has nine points of inflexion, four of which can be chosen arbitrarily. They then explore the consequences of fixing four such points and demonstrate that this determines a system of six pencils of cubics, each pair of which has a fifth point of inflexion in common. This leads to the identification of fifteen inflexion points associated with the given four. The author further investigates the relative positions of these points, revealing equianharmonic properties and a combination of harmonic relations. The book concludes by discussing the significance of these findings, emphasizing their implications for understanding the geometry of plane cubics and the determination of their inflexion points.
