Unearth the origins of Ireland’s families and the royal line in a landmark genealogy. This book traces the ancestry and stem of the Irish nation, drawing on ancient Irish manuscripts and later authorities to map pedigrees of the great clans and chiefs. It presents a careful, source-based view of how Irish families grew, blended with the history of Ireland itself.
The work surveys the major dynasties and their branches, showing how surnames changed under pressure from English rule, and how the royal line is connected to modern descendants. It also notes where history and legend meet, and why certain genealogies have been debated by scholars.

Excerpt from Irish Pedigrees, or the Origin and Stem of the Irish Nation
Eminent historians have written the History of Ireland but it may be matter for surprise that the Irish Gene alogies were never published. This surprise, however, lessens when we reflect that the distracted state of Ireland in the bitter past, and the passions that have agitated her different sects and parties may have supplied motives for their suppression. Those passions are happily subsiding I therefore trust there is no irregularity in now unveiling the Irish Genealogies.
