Dr Burgefs, (now Lord Bii hop of St David s,) whofe opinion and friendly patronage alone firit oecafioued the publication of the work, as he felefted it from among a number of other old MSS. that had been, for many years, laid afide by the A uthor, without the leaft intention of publishing them; ib that (except for this circumftance) the work, moft probably, would never have been printed.
