Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the complex relationship between natural charge distribution and the capacitance of a conical cup, extending the subject that was previously researched only for a disc. The author shows how the problem can be solved using a combination of spherical coordinates, Wiener-Hopf techniques, and a factorization of the product of two Legendre functions. The result of this is the ability to study the natural charge distribution on a conical cup, as well as its behavior at the apex and circular edge of the cup. By breaking the study down into three regions, the author finds the series expansion of the potential integrals and uses this to obtain eigen-series representations of the potential in the various regions. The capacitance of the cone is also obtained through these methods. Ultimately, the detailed treatment of the cone problem presented in this book adds to our finite list of boundary value problems whose solutions can be exhibited explicitly.
