Excerpt from Area Touch Sensor for Dexterous Manipulation
Some local processing of signals, such as inhibition of a sensing cell by its neighbors, is likely, but far less processing takes place than in the retina of the eye. Specialized sensitivities, such as signals in response to a particular motion across the surface of the skin, have been reported, but it is not known if such signals come from special sensing cells or from local processing. Different regions of the skin show different absolute and relative densities of the various types of sensing cells, resulting in different capabilities and acuities in different body regions. In some regions of the skin no more than mm separates sensors of a particular type, but spacing of several millimeters is more common. Experiments have shown that sens ing systems become less sensitive just before and during active motion.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the ways in which humans and robots may better interact. The author, an expert in robotics, proposes that the solution is better tactile sensing, a function in which humans far surpass modern robots. The book focuses on the design of a touch sensor that can provide a robot with information on the location, shape, hardness, and temperature of an object. The author provides a deep exploration of the challenges involved in creating an artificial sense of touch and presents potential solutions to these problems. This book is a valuable resource for researchers and students in robotics, as well as anyone interested in the future of human-robot interaction. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781333685058_0
