Excerpt from A Discourse, on the Genuineness and Authenticity of the New-Testament: Delivered at New-Haven, September 10th, 1793, at the Annual Lecture, Appointed by the General Association of Connecticut; On the Tuesday Before the Public Commencement
Virgil, a man of primary abilities, and vafi induftry, has, in his Eneis, attempted to prefent the world with/the manners, pro per to the feveral perfonages, mentioned in that work and undoubtedly defign''ed, that they fhould, as much as: might be, fuit the age,lin which thofe perfonages lived. But it 18 obvious to every attentive reader, ''that the manners of that poem much better fuit the age, in which the writer lived. Yet a careful an''djuft reprefentation of manners was probably one principal object, in the eye of that ingenious poet throughout his work.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the historical and theological arguments surrounding the New Testament. The author explores the evidence for the authenticity of the New Testament, examining both historical and literary perspectives. The book's primary focus is to prove that the New Testament was genuinely written by the people attributed to it and that its message has remained largely unchanged over time. The author meticulously scrutinizes the historical context of the New Testament, examining the lives of individuals mentioned within its pages and comparing these figures to what is known about them from other ancient sources. In addition to the historical analysis, the author explores the textual evidence, including quotations from early Christian and non-Christian writers, and analyzes the consistent use of the New Testament as a foundation for early Christian faith. Ultimately, the author seeks to establish the trustworthiness of the New Testament as a record of historical events and a source of divine truth. This detailed investigation into the New Testament's origins offers a compelling exploration of the foundational document of Christianity.
