The school was founded in 1905 by the Kings Mountain and Sandy Run associations and was later joined by the Gaston County Association in 1921. It was a member of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools of the Southern States and offered both a college preparatory curriculum and an English scientific curriculum. The school had a strong emphasis on Christian values and morals, and students were expected to attend church services and Sunday school.
