It covers a period between 1950 and 1961, using data collected during 128 research cruises by the Biological Laboratory in Honolulu. The author conducted an extensive analysis of the sightings recorded during the research cruises. Data was organized into 12 charts, each representing a 3-month period, displaying the hours scouted and the sightings per 10 hours of scouting for total bird flocks, total fish schools, and skipjack tuna schools. The findings show that the highest rates of sighting were in the vicinity of the Marquesas Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. The book also presents insights into seasonal differences in sighting rates. Variations in the rates of sightings in different areas and seasons highlight the dynamic nature of marine ecosystems and their intricate relationship with birdlife.
