Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a comprehensive look at the military forces of North Carolina from 1919-1920. After the service of the North Carolina National Guard on the Mexican Border and in the World War, the state had no National Guard. Preliminary steps were taken toward its re-organization under plans formulated by the War Department. This proved slow due to War Department requirements and minimal interest. In 1920, interest was rekindled, and by the end of the year, several units had been recognized by the Federal Government and were fully equipped for service. The book covers the formation of these units, armory inspections, and the establishment of Camp Glenn as a site for training. It also includes reports from commanding officers on special duty service, such as the deployment of troops to quell civil unrest in Charlotte and the aftermath of a mill workers' strike in Graham. The book concludes with a list of officers of the state and administrative staff and retired officers. The insights in this book illustrate the challenges and successes of the North Carolina National Guard during a period of transition and reorganization.
