Brä., die Erde samudra-fczzyanla »vom Meer umgrenzt« genannt wird, liegt kein Grund vor, an eine vollständige Umfassung der Erde vom Ocean zu denken, wie sie in der folgenden Periode gelehrt wird. Interessant ist eine Angabe im ]aiminiya-upanisad-brähmana, wonach die Mitte der Erde eine Spanne nördlich von dem plak5a-präsravana liegt, und die Mitte des Himmels da, wo die sieben Rsis (die Sterne des grossen Bären) sind.
