Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a critical edition of the thirteenth-century Spanish poem Libre de Apolonio, the only extant manuscript of which is preserved in the Escorial Library. The poem is a version of the widespread medieval legend of King Apollonius of Tyre, which was a popular subject of medieval literature throughout Europe. The author of this particular version is unknown, but the work is significant as an example of the "mester de clerecÃa", a style of verse composition employed by learned men of the clergy. The text is presented with critical commentary and a study of the language, revealing the linguistic and literary features that make this poem an important contribution to the study of medieval Spanish literature.
