Excerpt from The Washbourne Family: Notes and Records, Historic and Social of the Ancient Family of Washbourne of Washbourne, Wichenford and Pytchley From the 12th Century to the Present Time
I The name of the villages of Washbourne is derived from these terms, and the name of the family from the villages, in which it first received its knightly origin. Wash simply implies a swift and troubled current in a stream caused by the irregularity of the bed, the current occasionally over?owing its banks and producing an estuary. Burne is simply a stream, or brook, or river - thus Washbourne.
