Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book argues that the establishment of an educated and able ministry, which is essential to the well-being and existence of the church, is the indispensable duty of the church in all ages. The author, well-known for his work as a pastor and as the President of Princeton, examines the origins of the Christian ministry, explains what constitutes an able and faithful ministry, and discusses the means by which the church can provide such a ministry. He maintains that while piety is essential, so too are talents and learning. He argues that the church must look for and carefully select from among its young men those who are endowed with piety and talents; that it must provide a seminary in which the most ample means of instruction may be found; and, having done all this, guard by its anathemas the entrance into the sacred office, with incessant vigilance.
