Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This 1852 book examines the vision of the woman clothed with the sun in the Book of Revelation. The author applies a historical rather than a spiritual interpretation, as was more common at the time, to the prophecy in Revelation. He argues that the vision represents the early Church, which was in a state of purity and glory, symbolized by the sun. In contrast to the sun, the moon under her feet represents the law, which illuminated the Church before the coming of Christ, like the moon's borrowed light. The dragon is interpreted as the Roman Empire, a persecuting power that sought to destroy the Church. The dragonâs defeat represents Constantine's conversion, which led to Christianityâs acceptance in the Roman Empire. The book concludes by discussing the significance of this vision for understanding the Church's history and its relationship to the Roman Empire.
