Synopsis
This book is an extensive study of Madeira's plant life, first published in 1819. The author has enlisted the aid of other esteemed botanists and travellers to provide an account of the plants of this Macaronesian archipelago, drawing on specimens, drawings, and the firsthand observations of Banks and Solander from 1768. The book is presented as a substantial contribution to the body of writing on the natural history of Madeira. It was intended to provide a more in-depth study of the island's flora than had been possible in any previous work. The author has thus provided a valuable contribution to our understanding of the ecology of the region, and has created a resource of practical value to botanists.
