Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides a detailed overview of the main tribes and cypsela structure in the Asteraceae family. It examines the diversity of carpopodia, a fascinating structural feature found at the base of cypselae, or fruits, in this vast and ecologically significant plant family. The author investigates the morphology, anatomy, and taxonomic significance of carpopodia in 142 species, representing 93 genera and 17 tribes of the Asteraceae. A total of 14 distinct types of carpopodia are recognized, and the presence or absence of true carpopodia is noted in several taxa. The thickness of carpopodial cells is identified as a key diagnostic trait, with variations ranging from one to 30 cell rows. Notably, true carpopodia are absent in several taxa, highlighting the diversity within the family. This book enriches our understanding of the complex and diverse structures found in the Asteraceae, providing valuable insights for botanists, taxonomists, and researchers in the field of plant science.
