Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the eigenproblem (Tu-\Su=0) from the viewpoint of linear operators T and S in a Hilbert space. The author extends the existing body of research on self-adjoint, bounded, and unbounded differential and abstract operators to the larger class of unbounded and non-symmetric operators, offering new insights into the theory of the eigenproblem. Properties of K-positive definite and K-real operators are defined and derived, and these are then used to investigate the problem of existence of eigenvalues and eigenvectors under various conditions on T and S. The text also explores the generalized method of moments for the approximate calculation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and presents a fairly general iterative method, applicable to the approximate solution of the eigenproblem with unbounded and non-symmetric operators, that does not require the preliminary reduction of the problem to equivalent problems with bounded operators. This book will be of interest to researchers in applied mathematics, mathematical physics, and the related natural sciences and engineering disciplines where the eigenproblem plays a fundamental role.
