Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book offers a collection of detailed, empirically-derived models of atmospheric density, composition, and temperature as a function of height for a broad range of exospheric temperatures. It begins by summarizing the basic concepts and principles on which these models are based, and then presents tables of model data for 30 temperature profiles. The introduction gives formulae for the variation of exospheric temperature with solar and geomagnetic activity and allows for the diurnal and semiannual variations. The different response of the density at the 200 km level to different types of heating is briefly discussed. Tables are given to show the percentage contribution of individual constituents to the total molecular concentration at different heights and temperatures, for use in satellite drag calculations. The models are based on the diffusion equation and fitted to empirical temperature profiles of exponential form which are capable of reproducing the observed variations of density with height for any stage of solar activity.
