Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a rare insight into the lives of medieval villagers through an exploration of the Manors of Manydown. The lands and estates of this area were once in the possession of St. Swithun's Priory in Winchester. The collection of documents brought together in this book offer a detailed glimpse into the administration of the estates and the lives of the people who worked and lived on them. The book delves into the everyday dealings of medieval village life, including the holding of courts, landownership, the role of the church and the impact of the feudal system on the rural population. While studying these documents, the author ponders the changes and continuities that occurred over three centuries, from the 12th century to the 15th century. Rich in historical detail, this book invites readers to explore the distant past.
