Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book contains the charters that record the founding of Duiske Abbey in County Kilkenny, Ireland, a Cistercian monastery founded in the early 13th century. The majority of the charters come from the archives of the Ormonde family, who were the successors of William Marshal, the Anglo-Norman lord who founded the abbey. The charters provide valuable information about the social and economic history of Ireland at this time, as well as insights into the culture and practices of the Cistercian Order. The author has provided a detailed introduction to the charters, giving the historical background and explaining the significance of the different clauses. This is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of medieval Ireland or the Cistercian Order.
