Some stars were found to be variable in velocity. The author, an astronomer and physicist, discusses the elements of the orbits of five spectroscopic binaries and explains how radial velocity curves due to simple elliptic orbits present a secondary disturbance, suggesting a possible third body in two of the orbits investigated. The author has also written a detailed report of an investigation on the effect of increasing the slit-width on errors of measurement in radial velocity work.
