Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book tells the life story of Henry Fowler, Viscount Wolverhampton, a prominent British politician of the late 19th century. Born into a family of Methodist ministers, Fowler inherited a strong sense of duty. After a promising education, Fowler chose law, and later entered politics as a Liberal. He served as a Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton and held several ministerial positions under William Gladstone and Lord Rosebery. Fowler played a key role in the development of the welfare state and was instrumental in the establishment of the Old Age Pensions Act. The author's daughter, Edith Hamilton, paints an intimate portrait of her father, drawing on personal recollections and letters. Through Fowler's story, the book provides a glimpse into British political history and Victorian society, shedding light on the evolution of liberalism, social reform, and the role of Methodism in shaping Victorian culture.
