An attempt has been made to approach these subjects from both theoretical and practical standpoints and to give many concrete examples. A decided appreciation of the magnitude of the task has come with the progress of the work. However, it is' hoped that the references which have been com piled and arranged with a w to access and availability may supply deficiencies to some extent.
