Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the state of New York Harbor from 1903-1908. The author conducted a large-scale study, which included chemical and bacteriological analyses of the harbor water, as well as studies of its salinity and tidal currents. This comprehensive research provides insights into how sewage discharge was affecting the harbor's ecosystem, and how the tides affected the dispersion of pollutants. The author found that the waters near sewer outfalls were heavily polluted, but that the pollution was generally diluted by the harbor's tides. The author also found that the harbor's waters were generally cleaner in the summer than in the winter, and that there were fewer bacteria in the water during flood tide than during ebb tide. This book provides valuable historical insights into the state of New York Harbor at the turn of the 20th century and offers a valuable resource for understanding the challenges of managing water pollution in urban areas.
