Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book studies the connection between absorption and the structure of crystals. The author does this by examining the transmission spectra of different minerals, as certain groups of atoms have characteristic absorption bands which appear irrespective of whether these atoms are part of a crystal structure or a chemical compound. The results lead the author to conclude that certain absorption bands in the infra-red are due to particular groups of atoms, and that these atomic groups, or ions, behave similarly when they combine to form crystals. The text reveals interdisciplinary collaborations between the fields of chemistry and crystallography by showing that data from one field can be used to inform and expand our understanding of the other. The author provides a previously unexplored dataset which can be used by meteorologists in their study of the earth's moon as well as by scientists working with infra-red and optical technologies. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
