In the descriptions of the pictures the dimensions are given in inches, the first measurement indicating the height, the second the width of the canvas or panel without the frame. The terms right and left denote the right and left of the picture, as seen by the spectator standing in front of it. The price has been given when the pictures have been bought or sold by public auction. In recent years the sales were almost all at Christie s.
