Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the effects of parental alcoholism on their children's health, intellect, and behavior, drawing on data from two surveysâ"one from the Edinburgh Charity Organization Society and the other from special schools in Manchester. The author measured the effects of parental alcoholism and found that it was correlated with a slightly poorer physique, weight, and health in the children, as well as an increased likelihood of mental defectiveness. However, the author also found that the negative effects of parental alcoholism were likely due to environmental factors, such as lack of nutrition or poor home life, rather than a direct toxic effect of alcohol on the children. Additionally, there was no correlation between parental alcoholism and the children's eyesight. Ultimately, the author's findings challenge the common assumption that parental alcoholism is directly responsible for a wide range of problems in children and suggest that environmental factors play a much larger role than previously thought.
