Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book thoroughly investigates the effect of the sulfur atom and the sulfone group on the color of azo dyes. The author makes and contrasts dyes from mono-amines, particularly those from p-thioanisidine, CH3SC6H4NH2, and its sulfone, CH3SO2C6H4NH2, to corresponding dyes from p-toluidine and p-anisidine, showing the relative effects of the groups CH3, CH3O, CH3S, and CH3SO2 as auxochromes. The dyes from diamines provide unique insights, as the author tetrazotizes and couples a number of bases containing groups such as S, SO2, and CH2S between the two rings and examines the resulting dyes. They do not resemble benzidine dyes, as they lack the fast cotton dyeing properties that have made benzidine dyes so important historically. The author also prepares a large number of new compounds, including nitro compounds, amino sulfides, and amino sulfones, and provides tables detailing their preparation and properties. This book is a valuable resource for those interested in the chemistry of azo dyes and the role of sulfur and sulfone groups in their color properties.
