Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This medieval secular breviary provides a rare window into the religious practices of the time. A comparison between the Hereford Breviary and its counterparts from Sarum and York reveals a shared tradition of using psalms with antiphons and readings selected from the Bible and homilies. They provide insights into how the Old Testament was read alongside the New, and how the Bible was utilized beyond the liturgy. Bringing together a wide range of texts, from liturgical gospels to legends of saints, this book offers a fascinating overview of medieval religious culture.
