This book examines and compares the direct primary system of nominating political candidates with the former convention system. The author concludes that although the direct primary has not eliminated all issues or shortcomings in political candidate nomination, it has not been a failure. The direct primary has reduced political bossism, corruption, and has made political parties more democratic. Ultimately, the book argues, the direct primary's advantages outweigh its disadvantages, making it a crucial element of modern American elections.
