In this volume it is intended to state briefly and as clearly as the limited space will permit, some of the fundamental teachings of Socialism. If it can thus be told why we believe that our industrial growth or development is toward Socialism, why the establishment of a Co-operative Commonwealth will be the next stage in industrial evolution, what Socialism demands and how it may be brought about, the object for which the work is intended shall have been accomplished. Often to each of us comes this question: What can you recommend as a sort of Socialistic primer for a person who knows nothing of our teachings; that is brief and not too technical; that will give him a general, though limited, knowledge of Socialism, and thus qualify him to read with a greater degree of understanding our periodicals and works on special phases of the subject? Such a work is today the most crying necessity to our successful efforts as propagandists. The author realizes the magnitude of thetask he has undertaken; but he also realizes that it is a task that some one must successfully execute. The demand for such propaganda is imperative. If this work fails to meet the requirements of the hour, it may triumph by inspiring some worthier advocate to complete success, San Bernardino, Cal., July, 1902. THE AUTHOR.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed explanation of the fundamentals of socialism, which has been a key tenet in the development of modern civilization, though less elaborated on than capitalism. By examining the rise of capitalism in the 19th Century, the author demonstrates that socialist principles are not theoretical only, but are the very next step in the evolution of industry. The book notes that as businesses merge, the wealth of the nation winds up in the hands of a smaller and smaller group of people, concentrating power dangerously and creating a corrupting environment. Socialism, the author explains, is simply the means by which everyone will own and operate the means of production through collective action. Not an untested concept, this is how virtually all other labor-saving devices have emerged. The book discusses the societal impact of private wealth ownership, explaining that modern technology, the creation of trusts and widespread economic exploitation has put the nation at a crossroads. Socialism, the author explains, is the solution to the growing divide between classes, and the only way to prevent a small group of individuals from owning the entire nation.
