Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book reevaluates a philosophical debate concerning truth, rationality, and the limits of human knowledge. It does so by proposing a reconciliation between empiricist and rationalist approaches to knowledge as well as addressing topics such as materialism and free will. The author argues that an intrinsic human quality, termed common sense, is an innate principle enabling the perception of truth and the formulation of beliefs. However, he also recognizes the influence of education and habit on our understanding of the world. The author underscores that our common sense, as an extension of our physical senses, leads us to rely on sensory experience for the formation of our beliefs. Yet, he also acknowledges that our senses can deceive us, and that going beyond sensory experience necessitates the use of reason, which is capable of progression and demonstration. The book concludes that common sense is the ultimate judge of truth, and that even the principles of mathematics and natural philosophy must be examined according to its standards.
