Every person should possess some knowledge of chemistry. The specialist demands a much broader acquaintance with the particular branch of chemistry which concerns his work if he would choose to be of service to his nation. So varied arc the problems which depend upon a knowledge of chemical seienee for their solution, so limitless are the sources of this knowledge, that the average individual must depend upon the reading and study selected for him il he is to obtain but a fair knowledge of its application in his daily life. In conformity with this idea and knowing that the exactness of science precludes any alteration of facta, the revision of this edition has been made with the view of eliminating obsolete methods of procedure and application and incorporating more recent methods in metalluiy in its application to dentistry or as a basic problem, and yet the fundamental instruction and the pedagogical scheme of the author have been carefully preserved.
