Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the mannerisms and locomotion of dinosaurs, particularly the sauropods, and challenges the widely held belief that Diplodocus and its kin held themselves high, mammal-like, off the ground and walked in a similar manner to elephants. The author argues that the sauropods, in fact, moved in a way much closer to modern crocodiles, with their bodies low to the ground, legs splayed out to the sides, and the thighs standing well out from the body. This view is supported by anatomical evidence, including the structure of the feet, and by comparisons to the movement of extant animals. The author further suggests that the sauropods were largely aquatic and spent much of their time submerged in rivers and lakes, using their massive tails for propulsion and their long necks for breathing. This book offers a new and compelling perspective on the behavior of these ancient giants and provides valuable insights into their evolutionary history.
