This Work is an attempt to bring from general history, ancient and modern, a few passages to bear upon the peculiar condition of the British empire, in its political, fiscal, commercial, and colonial relations, but particularly on those circumstances which afiect the comfort and happiness of the great mass of the people. This attempt may be compared, or likened, to the action of a man, with a sounding-stafl Tin his hand, who walks over the surface of history, and endeavours to indicate where danger exists beneath, in consequence of the hollowness of the ground, or of the collection of materials in a state of fermentation, which will work into an explosion.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the influence of aristocracy and sacerdotal power on societies, providing historical examples to demonstrate how control over the people's subsistence has been used as a foundation for power. The author argues that the denial of food or basic necessities has led to oppression and inequality throughout history, citing examples from ancient Rome, France, and the British Empire. The book draws parallels between different eras, showcasing how patterns of aristocratic control over resources have remained consistent. This work explores the consequences of systems that prioritize a select few over the well-being of the masses, highlighting the role that food and economic disparity have played in shaping societies and driving social upheaval. By analyzing historical events, the author reveals the underlying dynamics that have led to revolutions and the erosion of power structures that restrict access to basic necessities. Ultimately, this book sheds light on how food and economic disparities have been instrumental in shaping the course of human history.
