Synopsis
This book is the inaugural volume of a new monograph series devoted to the study of remipedia, an almost recently discovered taxonomic group of crustaceans. Discovered in Bahamian and Caribbean marine caves, these 3 current species of Remipedia have spurred intense and continuing interest in many areas of zoology. Comprised of 5 parts, the first three parts of this volume, "Systematics" present the history of the discovery of these animals and their identification as a unique order within Peracarida, their anatomy and morphology, and detailed descriptions of the three known species including taxonomic keys to identify them. Part four of the volume, "Ontogeny" will consider the life cycle and larval stages of all three species. This book is essential reading for crustacean systematists, evolutionary biologists, and anyone interested in the biology of marine cave organisms.
