Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. Argues that the only real solution to the late 19th century railroad problem lay in unified management of the country's many competing rail lines. This book proposes to solve ongoing issues with railroad management, unfair pricing, and fluctuating or purposefully misleading rates through cooperation and consolidation of the country's railroads into one body. The author suggests that through this consolidation and the subsequent elimination of cutthroat competition, the railroads could establish reasonable and equitable rates for all involved while maintaining a standard of quality and expansion. Establishing a single governing body for the railroads would allow for the standardization of tariffs, eliminating the rebate system that led to disparate pricing, and would curb the rate wars that led to instability and uncertainty for shippers. With the elimination of rate wars, shippers would benefit from permanent pricing and better service, leading to greater economic stability and improved long-term planning and growth.
