Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. In this tale of love, family, and survival, we are introduced to the Lumineaus, a family of respected farmers in 19th century France. This quiet and unassuming family finds their lives thrown into disarray when a young man named Jean Nesmy comes to work at their renowned farm, the Fromentià re. As one of the last in a proud line of farmers, Toussaint Lumineau, patriarch of the family, has always taken pride in the legacy of the Fromentià re. But the weight of the family farm now rests heavily upon his shoulders and a harsh decision looms over his family when the marquis who owns their land demands overdue payment. The author, with a careful and evocative pen, deftly unravels the relationships within the Lumineau family, tracing the complex bonds and tensions that have taken root under one roof. Through a series of intimate scenesâ"a fatherâs worry over an impending financial loss; a daughterâs quiet rebellion against her familyâs expectations; and the hushed conversations of illicit loversâ"the author invites the reader to ponder the depth of human experience. At the heart of this story is the struggle between old and new, as tradition clashes with the changing world and the younger generation searches for their own path. Ultimately, this book examines the ways in which we are shaped by our past, the land we inhabit, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
