Our adversaries, to shield themselves against Scripture, have recourse to the Church, which, however, they openly belie; inasmuch, as they pretend having received from the Church the' Canonical books, and yet respecting the number of those Books, they plainly contradict the whole ancient Church, both of the Old and New Testaments.

The Church of the Old Testament never received, nor herd, as of Divine Inspiration, the books of Tobit, Judith, the Wis dom, Ecclesiasticus, Maccabees, &c.

And the Church of the New Testament; Jesus Christ and his Apostles, never made use of them, or cited them, as authorities.
