Excerpt from Bye-Paths in Baptist History: A Collection of Interesting, Instructive, and Curious Information, Not Generally Known, Concerning the Baptist Denomination
HE footpaths of any country may be expected to yield some glimpses, both of the land and the people, not obtainable along the dusty and well-beaten highway. It is sincerely hoped that this may pi''ove equally true of these Bye-paths in Baptist History. That they occasionally cross the main roads, and now'' and then run parallel with them, is no more than other Bye-paths have done before them but care has been taken throughout to preserve, as much as pos sible, their distinctive character.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed examination of the history and development of the Baptist denomination in Britain from its nascent origins up to the 17th century. The author seeks to trace the complex intertwinement of Baptist beliefs and practices with the broader religious, social, and political contexts of the times. Through exploration of little-known primary sources, the author uncovers a rich tapestry of Baptist thought and activism, revealing the denomination's pivotal role in the landscape of British Christianity from the era of the Lollards to the era of the Civil Wars. Drawing extensively on court records, sermons, confessions of faith, and other archival materials, this volume sheds new light on the often overlooked contributions of early Baptists to the development of religious toleration, the growth of dissenting traditions, and the shaping of British identity.
