Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides detailed instructions from the Prudential Committee of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to missionaries heading to the Sandwich Islands (known as the Hawaiian Islands today). The missionaries included three married couples, three single men, and eight native Hawaiians who had come to the United States for education and religious training. The instructions were comprehensive and covered significant aspects of missionary work, including personal conduct, cooperation, and the importance of piety in fostering unity among the missionaries. The author emphasizes the crucial role of the missionaries in spreading the gospel, establishing schools, and imparting religious knowledge to the Hawaiian people. The instructions also underscore the need for cultural sensitivity and respect for the Hawaiian people's customs and beliefs. Overall, this book offers valuable insights into the early history of American Protestant missions in the Pacific and the challenges and opportunities faced by missionaries during that era. It sheds light on the complex dynamics of cultural interaction and the efforts to spread Christianity in non-Western societies.
