The better to realize this object the rule adopted in its preparation limited the admission of any evidence to what might be found furnished by Protestant witnesses and official authorities; excluding any distinctively Catholic testimony. In two or three instances quotations have been made from Catholic writers, but these are offered only as corroborative of the evidence given by non-C atholic ones. It is also hoped that some of the matter contained in these pages may prove of service to those who are called upon to defend the principles of true Christian Civilization and social regeneration as afl rmed by the Catholic Church.
