The Violet Crown was originally published some twenty years ago, and has been for nearly as many out of print. The author has often been asked to issue a new edition. The present would seem a suitable moment, and his decision to do so has been influenced not a little by a very charming book from whose pages he has realised that in Greece itself these English poems had found appreciative readers. (T ales of a Greek Island by Julia D. Dragoumis.) In the present edition one or two short pieces which appeared in the former volume have been omitted, and their place is filled by two new ones, Sulla in A thens and The Passing of A laric. The former of these has already appeared in Scribner sM
