The Committee appointed to inquire into the expediency of an expression of opinion hy this General Court, upon the right of a State to extend its jurisdiction over the persons and territory of Indian tribes within its limits, whose personal and territorial independence of the authority of the State within the limits of which they are situated, are expressly guarantied to them in formal treaties by the United States: upon the right of a State to request of, and enjoin upon its executive officers to disregard any and every process and mandate purporting to issue from the Chief Justice or any associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, for the purpose of arresting the execution of the criminal laws of such State :and upon the duty which would devolve upon the Government of the United States, should any State extend its jurisdiction in the manner aforesaid, or lay such injunctions upon its executive officers: beg leave respectfully to submit the following REPORT.
