Présentation de l'éditeur

This Course of Study is an effort to bring together the results of a series of labors, both theoretic and practical, upon the various branches of the common school. During the last fifteen years the author has taken up one after another the common school subjects, and has attempted to work out the plan and movement of each study in proper relation to the whole curriculum. The result of this is a series of eight volumes of Special Method, in each of which the selection and arrangement of material for one study is carefully planned and the method of treatment is illustrated. In bringing together the results of all these efforts into a somewhat full and complete course of study in two volumes, it has been found necessary to discuss in a broad way the chief problem in the present organization of the school course and to point out the adopted line of solution.
