Without their valuable aid these lectures on the lines adopted would have been impossible. It should be noted Uiat the preceding list of subjects is by no means complete. It is limited by the responses from the authorities to the sq[ eiJ cer saiH;)eal for aid. On the whole, the precession has been very genous; and while there is evidently a lack of correlation and uniformity in the various treatments, this is unavoidable. Moreover, it shoidd not be objectionable, indicating, as it does very clearly, the personal equations of the donors oiF the information, notwithstanding the fact that occasionally the speaker has taken the liberty of materially modifying the diction. A gain, the incompleteness of Uie list of subjects is not a blnish; because, if it had been made even approximately complete, there would not have been sufficient time in the set limit to discuss all the topics with adequate fullness. In one sense the subject ot economics in engineering is a new one, because it is only of late years that it has been given much attention by designers, builders, and technical writers; but as jfar as the speakers task is concerned it may be said to be an old one, for the reason that the sud subject has been systematically and elegantly treated by Prof. J. C. L. Fish, 0L elandS tanford University, in his excellent little work, which bears the same title as Uiat of these lectures viz., Engineering Economics .A lthough that work covers the ground in satisfactory manner, it will not be
