MY LORD, Having just completed a little book on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I shall feel most happy if you will allow it to appear under your auspices, and with your approba tion. It would indeed be impossible for me to dedicate it otherwise, since the book owes its existence to your Lord ship. It was at Paray-le-M onial, in your favoured diocese, that the idea of the work first occurred to me, at the foot of that altar where our Lord revealed all the secrets of His Heart to the Blessed Margaret Mary. In these holy places, and more especially in the inner chapel of the convent, where, by the special favour of your kindness, I was permitted to celebrate the Holy Mysteries, I promised our Lord I would endeavour to write upon the love of His Divine Heart. In the Introduction to this book, I could not refrain from mentioning how great was the happiness I owed to the permission, so graciously granted me, to visit the convent and the humble cell in which the faithful Spouse of the Heart of Jesus rendered her last sigh.
